Greetings & Welcome to all:
Why it’s not just you? because for many of us when we deal with horrible issues in life feel like, were alone when in fact we are never alone.
So, let me introduce myself. My name is Tenisha Ford, age 39 years of age, mother of 4. I recently completed my Master’s in Marriage Family Therapy / Professional Clinical Counseling, “which I am extremely proud and grateful.” Presently, I am a clinical social worker in San Bernardino County. Why did I decide it was time for me to share my story using the blog platform? Growing up with no stable parenting, being placed into foster care, and then spending seven years within the California youth authority has had positive and negative effects. However, the truth is I would not have been who I am present without those life lessons since I never allowed any of these situations to restrict. I have learned to press on, be driven, motivated, resilient, go-getter, and my own biggest cheerleader.
While working as a mental health specialist/behavior interventionist, I was privileged to work with a sweet 10-year-old female threatening to kill herself. (“as you may assume, this broke my heart. “I learned that the young lady had been removed from biological parents’ care for years of sexually, physically, emotional abuse, and neglect. This young lady’s perspective was that foster children are less than, not important, negatively judge, and ultimately, she will be a statistic. At that moment, I felt compelled to share a portion of my story, which I noticed helped because she lit up, smiled, and, most importantly, she was able to lower her defenses and engaged. Months of working with this young lady, she no longer expresses a desire to die/hurt herself.
One of the ways I remained inspired was the handful of people in my life; what supported me were the stories of overcoming people like Lisa Nichols, Tyler Perry, Oprah Winfrey, Joyce Myers, Iyanla Vanzant, etc. Here I am trying to share in hopes of giving back while continuing my self-healing journey through sharing. My goal is to invite women from different backgrounds/experiences to share, inspire, and empower.
